Meet Lauren

The Art Therapist

Hey! I'm Lauren, a fully qualified and registered art psychotherapist with the HCPC and a member of the BAAT. I am fully insured in my practice and have an extended DBS.

I hold a Masters degree in Art Therapy and a Batchelor's degree in Creative Expressive Therapies, Arts, Health and Wellbeing.

I have over 8 years of experience working with children and families in various settings. I particularly specialise in child and adolescent mental health through the use of art, play and creativity.

During the day I work across various schools offering therapy to children between the ages of 4-18. In the afternoons I love going to my studio to work with more families with after school/work appointments available.

Creativity comes in many forms! Some examples include making slime, water play, finger painting, sand play, making stories and playing games. My favourite is water colour paints, oil pastels and collage. I understand that coming to therapy is a big step and can feel scary sometimes. That's why I encourage everyone to be creative and to have fun during their therapy to allow a positive experience and therefore positive outcomes.

The Studio

The Art Therapy Studio

Welcome to Lauren Nicole Art Therapy. I offer art therapy sessions within my art therapy studio in Barnsley, within local services, schools and organisations. The studio is filled with a wide range of high quality art materials, therapeutic games and books, sensory toys, sensory lights and soft cosy furnishings to aid relaxation and comfort. I regularly update and keep in stock my art materials for a full range of creative opportunities.

Testimonials

Child age 10

"I've felt better about my worries since I started coming. Art therapy is not just talking but you can do stuff, play and make art. The room is always stocked up and Lauren listens to ideas about new materials to try."

Parent

"Lauren has made such a huge difference to my son’s social and emotional development but also to me through those challenging months. Thank you!"

Child age 6

"Lauren is a nice lady. She is very kind to me. I like playing with the slime best. I really like going to my therapy sessions- they are a lot of fun and make me feel happy."

Parent

"My child felt 100% comfortable with Lauren from the off and he's come on leaps and bounds in the past 12 months. From the child he was this time last year, he seems so much more at ease and so much more confident and happy, which is all we hoped for! Thank you so much"

Teen age 17

"Lauren has helped me realise it’s ok to not be good at art but just have fun and be creative and I found my creative side!"

Parent

"We have learned so much about our child and why she behaves the way she does. Lauren offered us support in our parenting style without judgement. It has really brought us closer as a family and we can enjoy more activities together."

Parent

"My son and I have worked with Lauren for a year. We have built up an extremely good relationship with her. She is kind, caring and calm in her approach.
Lauren provides a safe space for children to express themselves and uses the latest research and techniques to get the best out of them.

My son loves Lauren's therapy room. It is warm and inviting and he engages well with the resources she has on offer. My son particularly enjoys making slime, mark making in foam and creating  pictures and models. He struggles to express his feelings in day to day life but is becoming much more successful with this as a result of Lauren's approach.

Lauren uses discussions with me, about current issues, to plan her sessions with my son and offers me tips and advice for how I can follow up at home anything that she has used in a session. The work Lauren does with my son is invaluable. She gives him time and freedom to be himself without fear of being judged."

Adult

"Art therapy gave me an alternative way to look at different aspects of my condition and how it affects me and made me more able and free to communicate better"
