Welcome to Lauren Nicole Art Therapy

What is art psychotherapy?

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the therapeutic benefits of art-making and creativity for the expression of thoughts feelings. This is often experienced as less confrontational than traditional talking therapies and can engage people in a unique and alternative way.

Art therapy is particularly helpful for children, those who struggle to talk about their feelings and those with communication difficulties.

Art Therapy is a private and confidential environment where you are safe to share your feelings with the therapist.

Psychodynamic art therapy

Lauren takes a psychodynamic approach to art therapy, which explores the unconscious thoughts and how past experiences influence current behaviours and feelings. It aims to support personal insight and healing through creativity with greater awareness to understand why you may behave a certain way.

This can help you to understand yourself to aid recovery and support improved self-esteem, confidence and self-worth. I am outcome focussed and aim to help my clients reach their therapeutic goals through art therapy directives and focussed sessions.

I aim to provide high-quality support with evidence based theoretical underpinnings to best help individuals and families struggling with mental health issues.

What happens in art therapy?

Lauren will invite you to create artwork using the materials provided. You may choose what you create or you can ask for a directive theme for some inspiration.

There is no pressure to take part in art making, instead you may play with the sensory toys and materials in a relaxing sensory room environment.

You have the opportunity to share your artwork and feelings. Although you do not have to talk about anything that you do not want to. Your artwork is kept confidential and safe with me until the end of therapy. You may then decide to take this home or destroy it, the choice is yours.

Do I need to be good at art?

Art therapy is a non-judgemental, safe and confidential space.

You do not need to be ‘good’ at art to take part in art therapy, just willing to experiment with art materials and your creativity. It is about expressing yourself – not making ‘masterpieces’ of art.

I offer a wide range of creative materials to explore such as paints, pencils, pens, clay, collage, crafts, sewing, and mixed media.
